Dangers of DIY Electrical Projects
August 18, 2019

Doing your own work around the house can be rewarding while leaving you with the feeling of contributing something useful to your home and saving you money in the long run. However, there are a few types of projects you should try to stay away from when working on DIY projects.

Electrical work is one area of your home that you should always leave to professionals. Whether you’re changing out an outlet or you’re replacing an entire breaker box or electrical panel, electrical updates can be incredibly dangerous. If something goes wrong, you could be left to face electrocution or an electrical fire in your home.

Electrocution

One of the more obvious dangers of working with electricity is the possibility of electrocution. Electricians go through extensive training to learn how to deal with electric currents properly, and even then they still make mistakes and end up with injuries. However, if someone with no formal education or training tries to work with electricity, the consequences could be fatal.

Residential Fire

Another possible side effect of working with electricity without formal training is a residential fire. In fact, electrical problems start more than 50,000 fires every year, according to the Electrical Safety Foundation.

Impossible to Sell

So we’ve covered the physical dangers of DIY electrical work but what else could go wrong? Because incorrect wiring and electrical work could cause disastrous consequences, in the long run, poor electrical work could make it impossible to sell your home.

Every home buyer, before officially purchasing a home, will get an inspection. In this inspection, they will look at the home’s foundation and structural integrity as well as wiring, HVAC, and more. If the inspector notices something wrong, he might advise the buyer not to purchase the house.

Quality Service That Will Make You Smile

"Helpful, friendly, and trustworthy service."

A-TEMP Heating, Cooling & Electrical came recommended from a friend who is a current inspector. I've used them for years for furnace and AC maintenance. Their customer service is excellent—helpful, friendly, and persistent in scheduling my maintenance. I appreciate that they've never pushed to replace my old furnace but instead helped me decide when to repair or replace without being pushy about sales. Finding trustworthy repair folks is hard, and I highly recommend them. You won't be disappointed.

"Clean and professional work."

A-TEMP Heating, Cooling & Electrical did a wonderful job. They were on time, wore shoe coverings, and worked diligently. They replaced our air filter and an electrical part under warranty, explaining everything clearly. The work was clean and professional, and the team was congenial and pleasant.

"Polite, positive, and very courteous."

Everyone we’ve dealt with has been polite, positive, and very courteous. A-TEMP Heating, Cooling & Electrical quickly replaced our furnace during the coldest part of a snowy winter. Other companies couldn’t get out for 1-2 weeks, but A-TEMP assessed it the same day and replaced it in 2 days. Can’t say enough great things about this company!
