History

In May of 1984, A-TEMP Heating & Cooling, Inc. (A-TEMP) was started as a commercial HVAC temperature control company specializing in the service, installation and repair of pneumatic control systems and was called "Friedrich's Temperature Controls" (FTC).  FTC was operated out of the owners' residence at 16064 S. Brook Court in Oregon City, Oregon.  FTC employed an average of four people and provided commercial service for clients such as:
  • SCHOOL DISTRICTS (Oregon City & Tigard)
  • GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS (GSA Services)
  • OFFICE BUILDINGS (Privately Held)
  • WILLAMETTE FALLS HOSPITAL

In the early part of 1991, the owners became acquainted with an individual who had spent 15 years in the residential replacement and retrofit market.  The advent of new, high-efficiency residential products in both heating and air conditioning equipment brought new excitement into the picture, and a new business venture, A-TEMP Heating & Cooling, Inc. was born.  The new products required more expertise and inspired a higher level of expectation from clients and therefore created a product to be marketed to quality-oriented clients.

FTC remained a separate corporation and was managed by Ron Friedrich, while another individual managed A-TEMP.  It became evident that A-TEMP's management goals were not that of the owner and in October of 1993, Ron Friedrich managed both FTC and A-TEMP.  New goals were set in place.  The first was to merge the two corporations in order to reduce overhead and simplify management.  A-TEMP also purchased a company called Mattson Heating in 1997, and Mattson's assets included a customer base dating back to 1968.

Over the past years, increased sales and growth have made it necessary for the management to attend many seminars and classes in relation to the commercial and residential HVAC industry and business and employee management.  It became evident that we needed consistent year-round sales to effectively cover the cost of overhead rather than being dependent on seasonal fluctuations of income.  We also realized the need to departmentalize the corporation into different profit centers so as to monitor which areas needed more management support and set individual attainable goals and profits for each department.

Today, A-TEMP Heating & Cooling, Inc. has five distinct departments with a total of 50 employees:

Thank you for calling A-TEMP Heating & Cooling: "How Can I Make You Smile?"

Sincerely,

Ronald E. Friedrich
