HISTORY

In May of 1984, A-TEMP HEATING & COOLING, INC.® (A-TEMP) was started as a commercial HVAC temperature control company specializing in the service, installation and repair of pneumatic control systems and was called “Friedrich’s Temperature Controls” (FTC). FTC was operated out of the owners’ residence in Oregon City, Oregon. FTC employed an average of four people and provided commercial service for clients such as:

  • - SCHOOL DISTRICTS (Oregon City & Tigard)
  • - GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS (GSA Services)
  • - OFFICE BUILDINGS (Privately Held)
  • - WILLAMETTE FALLS HOSPITAL

In the early part of 1991, the owners expanded their operation into residential HVAC. The advent of new, high-efficiency residential products in both heating and air conditioning equipment brought new excitement into the picture, and a new business venture. A-TEMP HEATING & COOLING, INC.® was born.

FTC and A-TEMP HEATING & COOLING, INC.® remained separate corporations until October of 1993 when Ron Friedrich merged both FTC and A-TEMP into one corporation and discontinued using the company name FTC. In 1997, A-TEMP purchased Mattson Heating. Part of Mattson’s assets included a customer base, dating back to 1968.

Over the past years, increased sales and growth have made it necessary for the management to attend many seminars and classes in relation to the commercial and residential HVAC industry and business and employee management. It became evident that we needed consistent year-round sales to effectively cover the cost of overhead rather than being dependent on seasonal fluctuations of income. We also realized the need to departmentalize the corporation into different profit centers so as to monitor which areas needed more management support and set individual attainable goals and profits for each department.
